PRESIDENT  – Erica Sharp

Erica Sharp began her career in Human Resources with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in dialing for dollars and working her way up to Human Resources. From St. Jude to Lightyear as a Client Account Manager for. This led her to a career with Humana, where she is was for 14+ years. In November of 2016 Erica moved to AssuredPartners as an Employee Benefit Consultant. In February of 2019 she moved to the Specialty Sales Executive role with Anthem of Kentucky. Erica majored in Business Administrative and Management from Indiana University-Southeast. She is very active in community serving as co-Chair of the USACares Gala, and serving on the OneSI board. Erica is a resident of Floyds Knobs, IN and enjoys spending time with her husband, Matt and her children, Dustin , Laney, and Tyler  In her spare time Erica enjoys running, in the early morning hours, with her friends, participating in many races local and surrounding states.

As President of SISHRM, this role is to provide leadership to the local chapter consistent with state, regional, and SHRM policy, strategies and objectives. Effectively operate the chapter so that the needs of the members are met. Perform other duties as required by the local chapter's bylaws. Serve as a voting member of the state council.
Ed Carpenter has been working in the HR field for over 26 years and is the Corporate Director of Human Resources for Superior Van & Mobility and is based in their corporate office in Louisville KY. Superior Van & Mobility is an industry leader providing state-of-the-art mobility solutions for the consumer and commercial transportation industry and a proud member of the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association. Ed provides full support for all human resources functions for the company’s ten locations in South Bend IN, Ft. Wayne IN, Indianapolis IN, Evansville IN, Louisville KY, Lexington KY, Knoxville TN, New Orleans LA, and Baton Rouge LA. 
Ed has been a member of SISHRM since shortly after the chapter was formed. He has served as the Chapter Certification Director and Workforce Readiness Director for several years and most recently as President Elect for the chapter. Ed attended IU Southeast, is SPHR and SHRM-SCP certified, and has been an adjunct professor at Ivy Tech co-teaching the SHRM Certification Prep Course for seven years. He is also the current Board Secretary and past Chairperson for the Region 10 Workforce Investment Board overseeing WorkOne offices and funding covering a six county local area. As an avid gardener and woodworker, he and his wife Patsy enjoy living in the rural hills of Washington County and enjoy supporting their daughter Amanda's business, Amazing Grace Digital Photography & Imaging.
 As President Elect of SISHRM, this role is to assist the president in overseeing all the activities of the chapter. In the absence of the president, perform all the presidential responsibilities. Ed is also in charge of all of the programming for the year 2019 and will eventually move into the President's role for 2020.
Mary Rone is the Recruiting Specialist for Petrochem Insulation, a Nationally based Industrial Construction company owned by ASRC (Arctic Slope Regional Corporation).  She is located at the Mid-America branch in Sellersburg, IN.  She has over 24 years of Human Resource experience as a generalist.  Mary’s main work experience has been in small privately held companies where she was the “One-Stop” HR Manager specializing in a wide range of HR functions including OSHA compliance, Recruiting, Onboarding, Payroll, Performance Management, Benefit Design and Execution.  Mary started her HR career with employee staffing giant, Kelly Services.  She has been with Petrochem for almost five years, initially as the Mid-America Branch Human Resource Manager and has recently moved into the newly established Recruiting Specialist role which recruits for all staff positions across nine branches in seven states.  Mary and her husband, Greg, are active members of First Baptist Church, Charlestown, IN.  Their family consists of two married children, (daughter and son in-law), two grandchildren and 11 year old Brady, a chocolate lab.  Mary’s hobbies are decorating her new home, reading mystery novels, swimming and being a Grandma.

As Secretary of SISHRM, this role is to take minutes of board meetings and actions, provide notice of meetings and general correspondence to the board. Maintain chapter records and history, in addition to making sure the chapter completes and hits all goals that pertain to our SHAPE initiatives.
TREASURER – Courtney Brutscher, SHRM-CP, PHR
Courtney Brutscher is currently a Human Resources Business Partner for Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana, Inc. based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. She has worked for Goodwill for 12 years and is passionate about their mission. Courtney joined SISHRM in 2011 volunteering where needed and has served on the board since 2016. Courtney has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Purdue University and is PHR and SHRM-CP certified. A lifelong resident of Floyd County, she currently lives in Georgetown with her husband and two children.
As Treasurer of SISHRM, this role acts as financial officer and advisor to chapter board of directors. Maintains the chapter mailbox and distributes mail to the appropriate officer, director, or chair. Send dues notices and other invoices to members. File appropriate forms and information with IRS.

As Director of Membership, this role manages the membership function to successfully achieve an increase in chapter membership. Lea and her membership team provide new chapter orientations in conjunction with the Director of Communications and successfully maintains the membership database.
Taryn is a journalist turned HR manager. Just a few years out of college, she fell into the world of HR and has never looked back! Taryn is currently the Director of Human Resources for PetFirst Pet Insurance located in Jeffersonville. She has over 18 years of HR generalist experience but her passion is recruiting, hiring and retention. Taryn holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Indiana University and is PHR and SHRM-CP certified. She has had the opportunity to build two HR departments for entrepreneurial companies in southern Indiana from the ground up and has recruited for entry-level positions, executive-level positions and everything in between. Building strong work cultures and impacting the bottom line are her top priorities. Taryn is a long-time member of both SISHRM and National SHRM.
Taryn lives in southern Indiana with her husband and two daughters. She spends most of her time outside of work at her daughter’s sporting events. The Pearson family also includes a ten year-old cat, Cupcake and an eight year-old lab, Sadie.

As the Director of External Relations, this role will manage relationships with all of our sponsors and businesses who wish to participate with SISHRM. She is the "go-to" in obtaining information on advertising or partnering with our chapter.

Cindy started in HR in 1997 after many years in the Food Service business as Restaurant Manager, Certified Working Chef, Baker, and Food Service Director.  Began working at NIBCO in 1996 when the company opened and had a progressive career from production to HR Manager.  Cindy is currently the HR and Safety Generalist at Visionary Sleep / Restonic.  She has been a SISHRM member since 2014 and National SHRM member since 2011.  She earned her B.S. in HR Business Management from Sullivan University and is PHR and SHRM-CP certified.  Cindy is also a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves, where she has served for over 30 years.  

 The  Certification Director will handle all chapter programming certifications and assist members with obtaining or recertifying.

As the Hospitality Director, this role will welcome new members into the chapter and coordinate the logistics of monthly membership meetings and our annual conference.

Shelly Trent is a career coach, writer, speaker, and educator in Human Resources. She has more than 16 years’ experience working for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Aside from human resources, Shelly’s background includes university continuing education, college career services, and business and industry training; she is a specialist in adult career development.  She serves as an adjunct faculty member at Indiana University Southeast’s School of Business, where she teaches business students about career planning and job search skills. She also was assistant editor of and writer for the National Career Development Association’s Career Convergence magazine for three years, and has written and contributed to numerous other published works in the area of career development. Shelly has completed her PhD coursework (all but dissertation) in HRD/OD and career counseling at the University of Louisville. In addition, she holds a Master of Public Administration and a BA in Government, Writing, and Criminology from Western Kentucky University.  Shelly is married, and has two cats and one dog — all rescues. In her free time, she enjoys weather (she’s a certified storm spotter), cookie baking, family genealogy, and collecting Beatles’ memorabilia. Her Myers-Briggs type is INFJ.

As Workforce Readiness Chair, this role monitors and evaluates local activities concerning workforce readiness issues and plans and encourages chapter involvement and activities impacting the workforce readiness arena.  Communicates with local faculty/colleges to provide classroom visits to discuss HR topics, the Chapter, internships/scholarships, SHRM membership, etc. Acts as mentor to college students seeking a career in HR.
As Director of Communications, this role will provide timely and comprehensive information to chapter members about programs, workshops, and other matters of interest via chapter publications. Create and maintain a favorable image of the chapter working for the professional development of its members by: (a) keeping membership informed of chapter projects, activities and upcoming meetings, and (b) disseminating relevant professional information viewed as beneficial to the members. Lead the newsletter, Web site, and marketing committee.
As Director of Technology, Susan will manage and maintain the SISHRM website, research and make recommendations for the chapter's technology needs. She will also assist in set up for any meetings.  Susan Woods is the Director of Recruitment for Talis Group, Inc. and has been helping regional manufacturers hire talented professional for over 25 years. Susan served on the Board for One Southern Indiana for 6 years and has been a member of SISHRM since 2007. She often speaks to local associations regarding recruitment and career development. and facilitates an HR Roundtable in River Ridge. You can connect with Susan at or on Linked in at
PAST PRESIDENT - Dr. Marilyn Faulkenburg, EdD, SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP
Dr. Marilyn Faulkenburg, is full time faculty in the Graduate School at Sullivan University and teaches in the Human Resource, Management and Leadership program. She has over 30 years of experience in business and 6 years exclusively in Human Resources. Marilyn owns MJ Training and Consulting and specializes in Emergenetics and other training: ethics in the workplace, team building, leadership, change management, conflict resolution, communications, supervisor training, problem solving and decision making and customer service. She is also a John Maxwell certified coach and trainer.
As Past President, they will advise the president and other officers and members of the board of directors regarding past practices, general operations, and other matters to assist in the smooth operation of the chapter. Past President is a non-voting board role.
